I'm Maria Berg-Näsbom and I'm a shoe-maker. I trained first in the world of computers and economics in the mid 1970s, and then changed streams and started an a cobbler's apprentice with Tauno Korteniemi in Umeå, northern Sweden. Then I worked for a year at Een & Holmgren's orthopedic workshop where I learned the basics of shoe-making. Moved up to Umeå later where I had my own workshop for seven years. Then I trained in orthopedic shoe techniques in Jönköping with Willy Krantz. There I learnt the whole process from measuring the foot to the finished shoe. Nowadays I also work nursing old people, and I enjoy that. But a shoemaker is what I am, in my soul and in my heart. |
